FeatureFlight vs ClickUp
A side-by-side look at how the two tools differ on pricing, invoicing, AI, and setup, and which one is actually the right fit for an agency or freelancer that bills client work.
Last updated October 2026.
The short version
ClickUp is a flexible, general-purpose project management tool built for internal teams of any kind: product, marketing, ops, engineering. It's deeply configurable, which is its biggest strength and its biggest cost: setup takes time, and adapting it to a service-business workflow means bolting on a separate tool for invoicing, payments, and client billing.
FeatureFlight is built specifically for service businesses: agencies, freelancers, and consultants that bill client work. Project management, time tracking, invoicing with Stripe payments, a client portal, team chat, docs, and AI all live in one workspace. Less customizable than ClickUp on purpose; faster to set up, opinionated for the way client work actually flows.
If you're running client work and want one tool that goes from "new project" to "invoice paid," FeatureFlight is built for you. If you're running a large internal team with non-billable workflows, ClickUp is a better fit.

Pick FeatureFlight if…
- You're an agency, freelancer, or consultant that bills clients for time or fixed-fee projects.
- You'd rather skip configuring custom statuses and just start shipping client work.
- You want time tracking that actually feeds invoicing and payments, not just a productivity report.
- You want one tool replacing four to six subscriptions (project tool + time tracker + invoicing + chat + CRM + AI add-on) instead of stacking separate per-seat bills.
- You want AI that drafts client briefs, invoice summaries, and project breakdowns, included on Pro rather than a paid add-on like ClickUp Brain.
Pick ClickUp if…
- You run a large internal team with deep, varied workflows (product, marketing, ops, engineering).
- You need extreme customizability: custom statuses, fields, automations, and dashboard widgets per team.
- You don't bill clients hourly and don't need invoicing inside your project tool.
- You're already invested in a stack (QuickBooks, Harvest, etc.) for billing and don't want to consolidate.
Where the difference actually shows up
Invoicing and getting paid
ClickUp tracks time well, but stops there. To turn a timesheet into an invoice, you export a CSV and import it into QuickBooks, FreshBooks, or Harvest. That's a separate subscription, a separate workflow, and a separate place where things go wrong. FeatureFlight closes the loop: approved time entries roll into a polished invoice in two clicks, the invoice goes out with a Stripe payment link, and the dollar lands without leaving the tool.
Bundled cost vs. the stack
ClickUp itself is cheaper per seat, at $7-19/user/month depending on tier. The catch: to actually run a service business on ClickUp you'd typically pair it with Toggl or Harvest for billable time tracking (~$9/user/month), QuickBooks or FreshBooks for invoicing ($30+/month), Slack for chat ($7/user/month), and ClickUp Brain for AI (~$7/user/month). Add it up and the realistic stack runs $40-50/user/month. FeatureFlight Pro is $39/user/month with all of that bundled, and ~21% lower at $31/user/month on annual billing. The per-seat number is comparable; the total spend is lower, and there's no integration tax between five separate tools.
AI that's actually included
ClickUp's AI features (ClickUp Brain) are an add-on at roughly $7/user/month on top of your plan. FeatureFlight's full AI suite (task breakdowns, project generation, daily briefings, AI doc generation, invoice summaries, and client intelligence) is included on Pro with monthly credits, with optional top-ups if you're a heavy user.
Setup time and opinionated defaults
ClickUp is genuinely powerful because it's configurable to almost anything, from custom statuses and fields to views, automations, and dashboards. The cost is that you have to configure it. FeatureFlight makes the opposite trade: opinionated defaults aimed at how service businesses actually run. Less surface area, faster to onboard, fewer decisions to make before you can ship.
Client portal that's built-in
Sharing a project with a client in ClickUp means navigating guest permissions on a higher-tier plan and accepting that they'll see an interface designed for internal users. FeatureFlight ships guest access on Pro with project-level permissions and a portal-style view designed for clients, so you can hand them a link without explaining what a "Space" is.
Migrating from ClickUp
Your tasks come with you. Export a ClickUp list to CSV and import it into a FeatureFlight taskboard. You map each column yourself, so statuses become board columns, and assignees, due dates, priorities, comments, and attachments all land on the right cards. Anything ClickUp-specific we don't have a field for, you create as a custom field during the import. Clients import by CSV the same way. Full project-level migration is on the roadmap; most teams that switch are up and running on a real client project within an afternoon.

Questions
FeatureFlight vs ClickUp, answered
Is FeatureFlight a good alternative to ClickUp?
For agencies, freelancers, and consultants that bill client work, yes. ClickUp is a general-purpose project tool built for internal teams, so invoicing, billable time tracking, and a client portal live in other tools. FeatureFlight is purpose-built for service businesses, so all of that is in one workspace. If you run a large internal team with non-billable workflows, ClickUp's deeper configurability is the better fit.
Is FeatureFlight cheaper than ClickUp?
ClickUp's per-seat price is lower at roughly 7 to 19 dollars per user per month, but running a service business on it usually means adding a billable time tracker, an invoicing tool, Slack, and ClickUp Brain for AI, a realistic stack of 40 to 50 dollars per user per month. FeatureFlight Pro is 39 dollars per user per month, or 31 on annual billing, with all of that bundled. The per-seat numbers are close; the total spend is typically lower.
Does FeatureFlight handle invoicing that ClickUp does not?
Yes. ClickUp tracks time but has no native invoicing, so you export a CSV into QuickBooks, FreshBooks, or Harvest. FeatureFlight turns approved time entries into a polished invoice with a Stripe payment link in two clicks, without leaving the tool.
Can I move my data from ClickUp to FeatureFlight?
Yes. Export your ClickUp tasks to CSV and import them straight into a FeatureFlight taskboard. You map each ClickUp column to a FeatureFlight field, so statuses, assignees, due dates, priorities, comments, and attachments land where they should, and any ClickUp custom field we don't already have you can create during the mapping step. Clients import by CSV the same way. Most teams are running a real client project within an afternoon.
