Customizing permissions
Override individual permissions for any user in the Admin Panel, within the limits of their role, to give your team exactly the access they need.
Every role comes with a default set of permissions, but FeatureFlight lets Admins tune those defaults per user. You can grant a Member access to a specific feature, or restrict a Manager from something they would otherwise be allowed to do, all without changing their role.
How the permission model works
Permissions fall into three groups:
Page Access
Controls which sections of the app are visible to the user. If a user does not have access to a page, it simply does not appear in their navigation. Examples include access to the Invoices section, the Admin Panel, or financial dashboards.
Features
Controls what the user can create, edit, and delete, and what actions they can trigger. Examples include:
- Create / edit / delete projects
- Create / edit / delete tasks
- Create / edit / delete invoices
- Manage clients
- Manage teams
- Manage goals and docs
- Export data
- Manage the subscription
Data Visibility
Controls what data the user can see, even within sections they can access. Many data visibility permissions have an Own Projects vs All Projects variant. For example, a Manager might see financials for their own projects but not for the whole workspace. Examples include:
- Financial data and budgets
- Hourly rates
- Analytics dashboards
- Time-logging reports
- AI features
Overriding permissions for a user
- Open the Admin Panel.
- Find the user whose permissions you want to adjust.
- Click into their profile to see their current permission set.
- Toggle individual permissions on or off as needed.
- Save your changes.
The user’s updated permissions take effect immediately, with no re-login required.
What happens when you change a user’s role
Changing a user’s role resets all of their custom permission overrides. They receive the default permission set for their new role, as if they were just invited with that role. Any individual overrides you had configured are cleared and must be re-applied if still needed.
