Threads and notifications
Keep replies organized in flat threads, and understand exactly when FeatureFlight notifies you so you stay informed without being overwhelmed.
Threads let you reply to a specific message without cluttering the main channel. Combined with FeatureFlight’s notification rules, they keep conversations focused. You hear about what you’re part of, and not much else.
How threads work
When you reply to a message, your reply opens in a thread panel to the side, staying connected to the original message in the channel.
Threads are flat: every reply sits at the same level under the top-level message. If you reply to a reply, your message lifts up into the same thread rather than nesting deeper, so threads stay scannable no matter how active they get. There’s no “thread of a thread.”
To start or open one, hover a message and click Reply in thread. FeatureFlight remembers which thread you had open in a channel and restores it when you return, so you can pick up mid-conversation. The thread panel and main channel sync in real time, with no refresh needed.
When you get notified
Notifications fire automatically based on where a message lands:
- Top-level messages (sent directly in a channel) notify every member of that channel, except the sender.
- Thread replies notify only the people closest to the conversation: the author of the top-level message, and anyone who has already replied in that thread. If you’re not yet in a thread, you won’t be pinged about it.
- Being added to a Group Chat notifies you, and you start receiving that channel’s top-level notifications from then on.
- A new Direct Message always notifies the recipient. A 1:1 message is never silently delivered.
